The West Armagh Consortium has launched its’ handyman scheme. Called An Post Fánach the scheme is part of the West Armagh Consortium’s social enterprise project and we are currently offering the service to all parts of the town. Over the coming week we will be advertising the service.
An Post Fánach, is a Gaelige phrase that translates into English as The Occasional Job, is an odd job service that the West Armagh Consortium is providing for local communities. Its objective is to provide an affordable and cost effective handyman service for the local community.
The scheme is a social enterprise project. The objective being to return any profit into the project to further improve and enhance it. It is not a charity, it is a business, and therefore it has to be sustainable.
In line with this, the West Armagh Consortium aims to provide a handyman service that will be affordable to the community and yet at the same time be self-sufficient to ensure its continual operation.
The number to remember is: 07340 303095
The West Armagh Consortium launched its new website tonight at an official launch held in its premises in Sherry's Field Sports Complex. The event was attended by representatives of local community, sporting and cultural groups. Guest of honour was Armagh Lord Mayor, Cllr, Robert Turner who wished the consortium every success with the new website. Chairperson of the Neighbourhood Renewal and Partnership Board, Fiona Kelly also attended the event to wish the consortium every success and she added that she was pleased that the NRPB was able to assist in the setting up of the website.
The consortium's chairman Stephen Fields, in thanking all who attended, outlined the consortiums vision of the website. Describing it as an umbrella site he said:
“When we decided to run with this project it was not merely to promote the consortium…
We are an umbrella group made up of several community groups. Through these groups we have links to a number of other community groups, sporting, cultural and statutory bodies. There are numerous community, cultural and educational events and programmes going on in the city, all of which make an impact on the community. So as well as promoting our own organisation we will promote and support similar enterprises pertaining to the community.”
A Men's Shed is a friendly and welcoming meeting place where men can come together and undertake a variety of activities. It is open to all men regardless of age, background or ability and is a place where you can share skills and knowledge with others, learn new skills and develop your old ones.
It is a place where men can meet to socialise and have a project to work on whilst contributing to the community. Men can pursue hobbies and interests with great tools or just meet for a chat and have a cup of tea or coffee, read newspapers and find out what is happening in the area.
